What we collect
- Your account. The email address or Apple ID you sign in with.
- Your profile and settings. Your handle, display name, avatar, home time zone, and notification and privacy choices.
- Your journal. Your private reflections, drafts, and when you wrote them.
- What you share. Cards and excerpts, comments, reactions, friendships, friend requests, blocks, and reports.
- App and device data. App version, security and reliability events, and product events. Product events never include anything you wrote.
- Requests you make. Support, export, and deletion requests, including the contact details, message content, and attachments you provide.
We don’t ask for your birth date. We only record that you confirmed you’re 18 or older, and which version of our policies you accepted.
Your private journal
When cloud sync is on, your journal syncs to your Bilby account so it’s there on any of your devices. Other users cannot open it.
Your journal is protected by encrypted transport and strict access controls, but it is not end-to-end encrypted. That means Bilby’s database operator could technically access it. We don’t put your journal text in friends’ feeds, social features, analytics, ordinary logs, reports, AI requests, or moderation queues.
Drafts may also be encrypted on your iPhone. A draft that hasn’t synced yet can be lost if you sign out, delete the app, lose your phone, or clear its data.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your account secure.
- To run the daily prompt, your journal, cards, friends, sharing, export, and deletion.
- To enforce who can see what, including your blocks.
- To protect people and the service, and to answer support and safety requests.
- To understand reliability and overall product use, without collecting anything you wrote.
We don’t sell personal data. Bilby has no ads.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account. After a verified deletion request, we run our deletion process.
Some records may stay for a limited time in backups, which expire on their normal cycle. A small amount of minimized information may be kept for security, safety, or legal reasons. We won’t claim something is erased instantly when it isn’t.
Export and deletion
Your export includes your journal as structured data, plus images of your cards. Once you download it, keep it somewhere safe; it’s as private as your journal.
You can delete your account in the app, or by emailing support@heybilby.com.
Security
Bilby uses per-row database access controls, least-privilege service roles, encrypted transport, restricted secrets, and audited operator workflows. Bilby is pre-release software, and no security measure is perfect.
Your choices
- Keep any entry private, or share a separate card from it.
- Add, remove, or block friends.
- Turn notifications on or off in iOS Settings.
- Request an export of your data.
- Delete your account.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, and to appeal a decision about a privacy request. To make a request or appeal, email support@heybilby.com. We may need to verify that the account is yours before acting on a request. We do not sell your personal data or use it for targeted advertising, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.
Age
Bilby is for adults 18 and older. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it.
Changes and contact
Bilby is operated by AIM HERE TO HELP LLC.
When we make a material change, we publish a new version of this notice and, when needed, ask you to accept it again in the app.
